REWA  wins FIJI FACT 2011 - REWA 1 LABASA 0

DAY 5 -  SEMI FINALS

Rewa has made it to the Fiji FACT finals to face Labasa in the match that is billed to be the exciting match of the tournament.  Rewa who have consistently featured and won most of the tournaments in the past calendar of the Fiji Football have had the Fiji FACT title elude them to date. Varesa Toma struck in the first half and headed home Rewa’s lone goal. They beat Nadi 1 goal to nil.

In the second of the semi finals, hosts Lautoka were downsized to spectators for the finals as they lost to Labasa one goal to nil. Maciu Duanadamu sneaked past a low drive to the left hand corner of to clinch victory for the Babasiga Lions. The match had its fair share of controversies and as picked up by us – consistently mistakes in refereeing has been an eye sore in  the tournament where basic rules are not adhered to and referees mock their mistakes and make jokes about it . The level of refereeing was distinguished as Peter O Leary had controlled a few games and comparatively local referees were below average in comparison. In fact what was surprising was that female referees controlled some games better with more apt and technicality then the more so called experienced ones who have a whole lot to prove in fact to themselves more than anyone else .

Despite all the draw backs, the final should be a one with lot of fast paced action and good soccer skill display. A cracker of a final as Rewa faces off with Labasa for the supremacy of the Fiji FACT crown.

Final scores -  REWA 1 NADI 0  and in the second semi, LABASA 1 LAUTOKA 0 .

DAY 4 UPDATES

With Rewa already qualified as the first team into the semi finals, Lautoka booked its spot in the semis with a win over Nadroga. Labasa became the runners up and Lautoka‘s opponent for the second semi. While Savusavu’s win over Suva meant a lucky entry for Nadi with just a better goal advantage over Nadroga to be the runners up of Poll 2 and face Rewa in the first of the semis.

The Rewa side will Nadi in the first of the Semis, while hosts Lautoka would be against Labasa in the second of the semi finals.

Labasa held Ba to a mil all draw cementing their position the semi and sending the defending champions back home and out of the tournament.  Also Suva team lost to Savusavu and were sent packing, they had required a win to secure their semis spot.

The Fiji International selection would be announced during the presentations and also there would be the sponsorship from Shop n Save as well for the Fiji National Team for the upcoming friendlies and Pacific Games.

DAY 3 UPDATES

The Nadroga stallions will be a force to reckon with and with 2 wins in as many games , the Gurjeet Singh coached side can pencil a spot in the semi with a win over Nadi in the next match.

Things were not going Rewa’s way as they were held to a nil all draw by a determined Tavua outfit which could have seen the games maximum points had their marksmen been on targets.

The matches continue today with Nadroga facing Nadi and then Battle of the two cities Suva and Lautoka. Following this match would be a Labasa vs Tavua and Ba vs Navua to sum up day 3 of the Fiji Fact tournament.

What way will this pools look after the end of Day 3. Will the big guns function and bring back glory and restore faith with fans is to be seen.

DAY 2 UPDATES

The Fiji FACT 2011 day 2   proved to be one of upsets.  Nadroga toppled Suva 2 goals to 1 in the first game of Day 2.

The game which see sawed for both the teams and provided equal opportunities for both but Nadroga made most of its chances.

Following that game Ba took the field against Rewa and was caught at the receiving end of a 3 goals to 1 drubbing.

Labasa bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Rewa with a win over Navua. Labasa edged out Navua with a goal.

The match of day 2 was the most eagerly awaited clash between neighbours Nadi and Lautoka.  Nadi drew first blood with a superb goal 6 mins into the game and were further ahead 2 goals to nil scoring a penalty. Lautoka bounced back and scored in the 29th minute and ended the first half with a goal. The final score remained 2 goals to 1 in favour of Nadi.

The tournament enters into day 3 tomorrow and Savusavu and Nadroga kick of the day’s proceedings.

DAY 1 UPDATES

The 21st FIJI FACT tournament kicked off at Churchill Park Lautoka and the opening match saw Ba being held to a nil all draw by neighbours Tavua. Ba had the defensive throttle fully depressed as Tavua mounted attacks on the Ba side.

In the second match Suva handed a defeat to Nadi as they won their first outing at the Fiji FACT with a convincing 2 nil lead.

The Rewa versus Labasa match was fiery one with Rewa playing with 10 men against a much fancied Labasa. The Delta tiger’s toast of the evening was super sub Archie Watkins who piloted home a perfect header. The slender 1 nil lead was the maximum point’s getter for the Rewa.

The final match for day 1 saw Lautoka the host take on the newly promoted Savusavu. As much as soccer pundits had predicted Savusavu to be a surprise package – they lived up to the expectations but on the wrong end as they were walloped by Lautoka 7 goals to nil.

Day 2 action continues as we will see  Suva face Nadroga  at 4pm in a pool 2 encounter , while Ba take on Rewa in the second match at 5.15pm . Navua makes an entry into the FACT with a clash with Labasa. The final match at 8pm sees battle of two bitter rivals and neighbours Nadi vs hosts Lautoka.
